Change of Mayor at North Petherton
After eight years at the helm, Cllr Alan Bradford has stood down as Town Mayor of North Petherton. He handed over the chain of office at the Council’s Annual Meeting on 16th May 2022 and took the opportunity to thank his fellow councillors, the Clerk, and particularly his wife Janet for all the help and support that he had received during his term of office. He reminded Members of the many things that had been achieved in recent years. These included:
The recently completed installation of new bus shelters along the A38 and near junction 24 on the M5;
The redevelopment of the Memorial Park in North Petherton to what is now one of the most popular play areas in the area;
The retention of the Town’s library and the recent relocation from the unsafe building in Fore Street to new premises in the Community Centre along with the creation of a dedicated office base for the Council.
The improved and extended maintenance of community areas, particularly during the covid crisis.
Cllr Bradford will be succeeded by Cllr Phillip Spencer, who, as the longstanding Chairman of the Council’s Finance Committee, has been responsible for the successful management of the Authority’s resources, enabling improvements in services to be combined with lower than average local precept levels.
